Joel Osteen, Pastor

DATE: Saturday, Nov. 19, 2006
TIME: 7:00 p.m.

THE MUSIC: The music, as always, was electric and full of energy. Of course, the music is a big part of the Lakewood service. As soon as 7:00 p.m. hit, the entire audience was up on their feet in anticipation of praising God through song.

Cindy Cruse Ratcliff along with Steve Crawford and Da’dra Crawford-Greathouse led a spirited praise and worship service. Steve and Da’dra are now official Houstonians and members of the Lakewood Music Ministry. They bring an additonal level of excitement with their unique style of worship. Among the songs sung were “I Will Sing”, one of my favorites “Here I Am To Worship” and “Emmanuel” (God With Us). These songs were followed by an energized version of Kurt Carr’s “In the Sanctuary” and “Do You Know Jesus?”

THE MESSAGE: Pastor Joel spoke on sowing what you need and having supernatural things happen when you stop focusing on your problems. What you make happen for others God would make happen for you. He suggested sharing our time and talents even when we thought we were too busy. You would not be wasting your time, you would be sowing seeds. Your gifts would come back to you as stated in Ecc. 11:1

He said that many people are depressed and unfulfilled because they are focused on their own needs. He asked the question, what is it you need? If you need favor, give favor to others. If you need encouragement, pick up the telephone and encourage someone else. If you need healing, pray for someone else. Your acts of kindness will never go unnoticed. Be more seed minded and not need minded. Look for ways to be a blessing to others.

I loved this message because it is such a simple thing that we often forget about. What a great reminder to give what you need. We don’t know how the kindness we show others will come back. We can be sure that it will come back one way or the other. This message is an encouragement to those that are in difficult situations. It lets us all know that any situation can be turned around through God’s grace and sowing what you need.

THE ATMOSPHERE: Lakewood is full of people that are excited about their lives and the future of the church. There is always something going on and many different ministries to get involved in. This week the choir was out in full force recruiting new singers. The ushers are always personable and you are always greeted with a big smile and a greeting.

……..and that is what happened in my church this week. You can always watch live and archived services at http://www.lakewood.cc/ or http://www.joelosteen.com/.

What was it like in your church this week? The entire universe is filled with God’s love and grace. We would love to hear about your church service. Post a comment or e-mail me at dominique@1800gospel.com and tell us all about the music, the message and the atmosphere at your church.
