Fab Five!!-Israel and New Breed Style
Because Israel Houghton is a part of the Lakewood Church Choir I have the opportunity to see him when he is in town. Whenever he is part of the service he brings an additional level of excitement to the already electric atmosphere. His praise and worship style is high energy, the lyrics are simple and based on the Word of God and he has a musical style that is cross-cultural.
Their music really can’t be put in one category. It most certainly breaks down many barriers that we have built in our minds about gospel and praise and worship music and gives us a fresh and original approach to Christian worship.
Whenever I put one of his CD’s on I can be sure the entire family will enjoy it. My little ones like to listen to his CD as they are getting prepared for school in the morning and in the car on the way to school. His music crosses so many boundaries. There is something in it for everyone to enjoy. There are so many great songs to choose from, it was hard to choose just five. But…the top Fab Five songs for this week, Israel and New Breed Style, are…………
1.“Friend of God”-I think this song is the one that is most associated with Israel and New Breed. I am sure everyone at Lakewood, young and old alike, is well versed in this groundbreaking song. It has lyrics that we can all relate to and it reminds us of the convenant we have with God. It’s a great thing to go to children’s church and see all the kids having a great time jumping up and down singing this song.
2.“I Am Not Forgotten”- This song is from the Alive in South Africa double CD that was recorded live in South Africa. When Israel performed this song at Lakewood it was wonderful experience. It was awesome to be with thousands of people singing the lyrics to this blessed song which was inspired by Psalm 139. The Afro beats make this song unforgettable. My little ones love this song and love to sing along. Nice to be reminded that God has not forgotten us and knows each of us by name.
3. “Still Standing”-I think I have talked about this song quite a bit on this blog. It is hands down one of my favorite New Breed songs. Those who have gone through and survived heartache, loss or pain can appreciate the lyrics to this song. God’s grace allowed you to keep standing when you thought you would never make it. I think these lyrics are very powerful because they attest to that fact that only because of God’s mercy and grace do we survive at all.
I don’t know where I would be today.
If not for your kindness I never could say,
I’m still standing.
If not for your mercy, if not for your love,
I most likely would have given up.
If not for your favor I never could say,
I’m still standing but by the grace of God.
5.“Again I Say Rejoice”-This is a classic praise and worship from Israel and New Breed. This song is a popular one for Lakewood’s worship and all over the world.
And those are my favorites, Israel and New Breed style! Any of his CD’s would be a great addition to your music collection. Your entire family will enjoy the CD’s from start to finish. Go to Amazon.com or your local music store and pick one up today! I am sure you will be glad you did.
