Joel Osteen, Pastor

DATE: Saturday, April 28, 2007
TIME: 7:00 p.m.

THE MUSIC:
The worship team consisted of Cindy Cruse Ratcliff, Da’dra Greathouse and Steve Crawford. Worship started with “Forever God is Faithful”, “Salvation is Here”, and “My Savior Lives” . “Sing Over Me”, from Lakewood’s Cover The Earth CD was next. I love the lyrics of this song. I haven’t heard the song in a while so it was great to hear again. I love the part of the song that says: “In a moment I am in Your presence/everything is clear/as I hear heaven’s melody.”

Up next was “Made Me Glad”, Hillsong’s “God He Reigns” and Israel’s “Favor”. Steve did an awesome job on lead for “Favor”. The song is already popular and he added even more pizazz to it. I think the entire worship team does an awesome job in preparing the hearts of the congregation to hear the word of God. Their heart for worship and love for God overflows and touches the hearts of all present.

THE MESSAGE:
Scripture Reference: Galations 6:10, Proverbs 19:17
Subject: Be Somebody’s Miracle
Sermon Synopsis: Today Pastor Joel spoke on ways we all can be someone else’s miracle. He said we should always be on the lookout for someone to bless. We should make it our goal to do one good thing for someone. It could be a kind word, a smile or a listening ear. Make it a point to live to give, and not just to get.

Pastor Joel said that the key to true fulfillment is giving to others. When we are good to others, God will be good to us. The key to receiving blessings in your own life is to be a blessing to others. Be on the lookout for opportunities to do good. When you give, it will be given back to you. When you are able to be a blessing to someone, don’t pass it up. Don’t second-guess yourself. When you see someone at the office having a bad day, don’t just pass them by. Take the time to stop and encourage them. Sometimes all people want is for someone to listen to them.

Listen to what people are saying around you. Often they will drop clues concerning what is going on in their lives. The closest thing to the heart of God is helping others. Often the smallest act of kindness can turn into the biggest thing. Pastor Joel reminded everyone that when we take the time to invest in others, God will use that seed to bless our lives. We should have the mindset that says that we want to invest in others.

According to Pastor Joel, there is a special blessing for those who are kind and caring to older people. It is easy to do good to someone who is able to repay you. It takes a true heart of compassion to do for someone who can’t repay you. The good news is that God will always repay you. To some people, just having someone be a friend is a blessing. If you have a desire to help someone, don’t pass up the opportunity. You could be the someone that God will use to be that persons miracle.

**Of course, this is only a very short summary of Pastor Joel’s sermon. To get the full effect you can watch this service and other archived services at http://www.lakewood.cc/ or http://www.joelosteen.com/.

THE ATMOSPHERE:
In Pastor Joel’s message, he said that it was boring when you live your live just for yourself. He said it is exciting when you go outside of yourself and live to help others. I think this statement describes the philosophy of Lakewood Church. There is an abundance of programs that are available to help church members, the community and other countries.

Sometimes we get so busy and caught up in our own lives that we don’t take the time to “feel the heart” of others. I appreciated Joel’s message because it reminded me that one day I may be lonely, sick, depressed or any number of other things, and I just may need someone to be my miracle. We are blessed to be a blessing!

……..and that is what happened in my church this week. What was it like in your place of worship this week? The entire universe is filled with God’s love and grace. We would love to hear about your church service. Post a comment or e-mail me at dominique@1800gospel.com and tell us all about the music, the message and the atmosphere at your church.
