Notes From My Church-I Will Sing of Your Great Love
PLACE:Lakewood Church-Houston, Tx
Joel Osteen, Pastor
DATE: Saturday, May 19, 2007
TIME: 7:00 p.m.
THE MUSIC:
This week the brother and sister team of Steve Crawford and Dadra Greathouse led the congregation into worship. I missed Cindy’s beautiful voice and Israel and his guitar, but Steve and Dadra did a wonderful job. Dadra’s clear and beautiful voice is very comforting to listen to. It has such a nice and heartwarming tone to it. The energy that Steve puts out is contagious and he looks like he is having the time of his life.
Worship started with Israel and New Breed’s lively and upbeat “My Life Belongs To You” and Hillsong’s “King of Majesty” and “For All You’ve Done”. Next up were the classic Lakewood songs “Sweeter” from the Cover the Earth album and “I Will Sing” from We Speak to Nations
. The lyrically beautiful “I Will Sing” reminds me of Lakewood’s grand opening weekend. It was an exciting time full of press conferences, TV specials and newspaper articles. This song sums up the joy and awe at what God chose to do at Lakewood.
I Will Sing
I will sing of Your great love,
I will stand in wonder of,
What you’ve done in this life,
With my song testify,
I will live and not die to declare.
Lord, You are good and I will sing,
Your mercy endures, it’s everlasting,
Lord, You are good and I will sing,
A song of worship.
Lord, your are worthy to receive,
Dominion and power, honor and majesty,
Lord, You are good and I will sing,
Of Your great love.
Lakewood Church-Grand Opening-July 16 -17, 2005

Worship ended with Dadra’s beautiful voice taking “Emanuel” and “At The Cross” to glorious new heights and the choir singing Byron Cage’s “Celebrate”.

Subject: Learning to Walk in Humility
Message was given by Dr. Paul Osteen
Sermon Synopsis:
Dr. Paul delivered a great message this week on learning to walk in humility. He illustrated his point by walking on stage with a large black spot on his face. His assistant interrupted him during his opening, to tell him about the spot on his face. He thanked his assistant for telling him about the spot and explained that we often have things going on in our lives that we can’t see, but others are able to see clearly. He said that in order to live a life of victory and excellence we have to learn to walk in humility. The world tells us to dress for outward success, but God is not concerned about that. He is concerned about what is going on in the inside. It takes inner strength, confidence and courage to walk in humility. Jesus walked in humility, confident in who He was. He was humble, but not weak. It is important not to confuse humility with weakness. They are not the same thing.
Dr. Paul explained that humility is the absence of pride and arrogance. In order to fully understand humility, you need to understand what pride is. When you are full of pride, you want to be the center of attention. When you are prideful, you think you know it all, and don’t want to be corrected. You don’t listen to others and never admit you are wrong. Prideful people think that they are better than others.
Dr. Paul said that pride always precedes destruction. The worst sort of pride is religious pride. This sort of pride makes you look down on others because they don’t believe like you do. Jesus did not have any part in religious pride. Jesus came to show us an entirely new way to relate to others with humility. We should always strive to walk in humility, so that God will be with us and not against us.
Dr. Paul gave four ways to increase in humility:
1. Everyday look for ways to put others first. Get yourself off your mind.
2. Learn to be teachable. Be open to the ideas of others.
3. Learn to ask for help.
4. Always be willing to admit when you are wrong.
**Of course, this is only a very short summary of Dr. Paul’s sermon. To get the full effect you can watch this service and other archived services at http://www.lakewood.cc/ or http://www.joelosteen.com/.
THE ATMOSPHERE:
A lot of people wonder if the atmosphere has changed since Lakewood’s move to a much larger venue. It would stand to reason that it would because of the sheer size of the building. I think the atmosphere is still filled with the same love and friendliness that was at the other building. The only difference that affects me is the walk.
I try to convince the hubby and little ones to flag down one of those buses that will take you from your car to the church, but they won’t budge. I even ask to be dropped off in the front of the church, but still nothing. They just keep mumbling something about it being good exercise for me.
……..and that is what happened in my church this weekend. What was it like in your place of worship this week? The entire universe is filled with God’s love and grace. We would love to hear about your church service. Post a comment or e-mail me at dominique@1800gospel.com and tell us all about the music, the message and the atmosphere at your church.
