Fab Five!!-Gospel Music Favorite Albums

This week’s Fab Five have proven to be favorites because of their longevity on the Billboard Charts. They are great sellers in the retail market and receive a lot of airplay on gospel music radio. It’s great when we support gospel music in this way, because it helps to get the message of God’s love out to the world and assures that gospel music continues to flourish. Listed below are the gospel music albums that have enjoyed a long stay on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart:Â
1. Mary Mary-Mary Mary-This album has been on the charts for an impressive 104 weeks and is also RIAA certified as a gold album (500,000). A popular song on the album is the beautifully sung “Yesterday”. The duo, consisting of sisters Erica & Tina, first burst on the scene with the hit “Shackles”, and are often credited for broadening the fan base of contemporary gospel by introducing elements of soul music and hip hop. Â
2. Kirk Franklin-Hero-This popular album is also RIAA certified gold and has been on the charts for 94 weeks. This album is full of great songs, but the one that stood out for me was “Imagine Me”. I love the personal nature of the lyrics and the beautiful melody.
3. Juanita Bynum-A Piece Of My Passion -Another RIAA certified gold album which has been burning up the chart for 79 weeks. Juanita Bynum of the “No More Sheets” fame, has another album entitled Gospel Goes Classical that has been on the charts for 42 weeks.
4. Nicole C. Mullen-Redeemer: The Best of Nicole C. Mullen-This greatest hits album has been on the charts for 62 weeks. When I think of Nicole Mullen, the song that comes to mind is ”Redeemer”, but this best of album has many great songs that I have not heard. It includes ”On My Knees” for which she received the Song Of The Year Dove Award in 1998 and the radio favorite “Call on Jesus”.  Nicole C. Mullen has become one of the most loved and respected singer/songwriters in Christian and gospel music. You can visit Nicole and hear more samples of her music at her website.
5. Tye Tribbett-Victory LIVE!-Tye Tribbett and his energy charged album has been on the charts for 60 weeks. When I think of Tye, off the chart energy comes to my mind. That energy grabs our attention and the message in his music is able to sink in. My little ones love his music. My favorites on the album are “Victory” and “Everything Will Be Alright”.
Â
Honorable Mention-Lecrae After The Music Stops -Gospel Rap music is on the come up and proof of that is the fact that this gospel hip hop album has been on the charts for 48 weeks. A favorite for me is “Prayin For You”.
