Notes From Lakewood Church-Knowing Who You Are
PLACE: Lakewood Church-Houston, Tx, Joel Osteen, Pastor
DATE: Saturday, January 19, 2008
TIME: 7:00 p.m.
THE MUSIC:
Worship Team: Cindy Cruse Ratcliff, Israel Houghton, Da’dra Crawford Greathouse, Steve Crawford, Choir & Band
Songs: He Reigns, We Have Overcome, I Know Who Am, All My Life, How Great Thou Art, How Great is Our God, I Will Search, At The Cross, Moving Forward
It looks like “I Know Who I Am” made the cut and will be in permanent song rotation. Yeah! It was also sung a couple of weekends ago and the audience loved it. There is something powerful about a room full of worshippers declaring their worth in Christ over themselves.
The song does the job the writer intended if the words are allowed to really and truly sink in. We are forgiven and accepted by Christ. Because of this we can be secure and confident of God’s love for us. Check the video for a reminder of “who you are” in Christ. The song is on Israel’s, A Deeper Level, album.
“Moving Forward”, is a new Lakewood worship song, written by Israel and worship leader Ricardo Sanchez of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia. Israel said before the song that it was inspired by one of Pastor Joel’s messages. This reviewer likened it to urban rock worship. That very well may be, but the true test is does it speak to the heart.
The title says it all, once you made a decision to make a change in your life, there is no turning back. Another new one that the audience loved. Led by Michael Mellett and Israel. Video below. Enjoy!
THE MESSAGE:
Scripture References: Proverbs 16:9, James 2:17, Habukuk 2:2
Subject: Making Plans to Succeed
Quick Notes From The Sermon:
Pastor Joel started off by saying that success is not accidental. He explained that you have to have a plan in order to know where you’re going and how you’re going to get there. Without goals you can’t map your success and you’re easily distracted. He suggested that goals and dreams should be put down on paper in order to have a game plan to follow. He said that no one should go through live vague, not knowing what their purpose is.
It’s important to know the difference between a God-given dream and a wish. The way you know if a dream is from God is that the dream won’t go away. No matter what you do, that dream still comes back to mind. Pastor Joel advised the congregration to write down their goals. He said something happens when you put your goals down on paper. Keep it in front of you to help you keep focus.
Make long term goals (10, 15, 20 year) and short term goals. The short term goals are attainable milestones that can be celebrated on the way to long term goal completion.
**These are my quick notes from the sermon. To get the full effect you can watch this service and other archived services at Lakewood’s website or Pastor Joel’s website. You can also sign up for the free podcasts or call 1-800-487-0565 for copies of the sermons.
THE ATMOSPHERE:
**”You do the natural, and God will do the supernatural.”-Pastor Joel Osteen
The sermon this week was perfect for the new year! Knowing your goals and dreams and backing them up with a plan is so very important. What are your hopes and dreams? Are they written down?
My vision for Notes From My Church is for others to share what is going on in their church services. I would love to hear what is going on in other places of worship. Let’s all share and encourage each other. It doesn’t have to be long, fancy, or perfect. Just place it in the following format: the music, the message, the atmosphere and e-mail it to me at dominique@1800gospel.com. I’m looking forward to hearing from everyone! Thanks!
