Notes From Lakewood Church-Knowing Who You Are

January 23, 2008 · Filed Under Notes From My Church · Comment

PLACE: Lakewood Church-Houston, Tx, Joel Osteen, Pastor

DATE: Saturday, January 19, 2008

TIME: 7:00 p.m.

THE MUSIC:

Worship Team: Cindy Cruse Ratcliff, Israel Houghton, Da’dra Crawford Greathouse, Steve Crawford, Choir & Band

Songs: He Reigns, We Have Overcome, I Know Who Am, All My Life, How Great Thou Art, How Great is Our God, I Will Search, At The Cross, Moving Forward

It looks like “I Know Who I Am” made the cut and will be in permanent song rotation. Yeah! It was also sung a couple of weekends ago and the audience loved it. There is something powerful about a room full of worshippers declaring their worth in Christ over themselves.

The song does the job the writer intended if the words are allowed to really and truly sink in. We are forgiven and accepted by Christ. Because of this we can be secure and confident of God’s love for us. Check the video for a reminder of “who you are” in Christ. The song is on Israel’s, A Deeper Level, album.

“Moving Forward”, is a new Lakewood worship song, written by Israel and worship leader Ricardo Sanchez of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia. Israel said before the song that it was inspired by one of Pastor Joel’s messages. This reviewer likened it to urban rock worship. That very well may be, but the true test is does it speak to the heart.

The title says it all, once you made a decision to make a change in your life, there is no turning back. Another new one that the audience loved. Led by Michael Mellett and Israel. Video below. Enjoy!

THE MESSAGE:

Scripture References: Proverbs 16:9, James 2:17, Habukuk 2:2

Subject: Making Plans to Succeed

Quick Notes From The Sermon:

Pastor Joel started off by saying that success is not accidental. He explained that you have to have a plan in order to know where you’re going and how you’re going to get there. Without goals you can’t map your success and you’re easily distracted. He suggested that goals and dreams should be put down on paper in order to have a game plan to follow. He said that no one should go through live vague, not knowing what their purpose is.

Bill Clinton Has A Dream

This was too funny! Bill stayed up too late the night before. This makes me think of lots of “sleeping in church” stories. I’ve seen sleeping people tapped on the shoulder and I’ve seen some fall out of pews. I’ve even heard preachers call out the offender during a sermon and once I heard a preacher ask the person sitting next to the sleeper to wake them up.

What’s your favorite “sleeping in church” story?
