103 year old Hazel Hainsworth Young, was honored by Houston Independent School District for her 80 year career in education. She is the last living member of Jack Yates High School’s inaugural 1926 faculty.
After 90 years, Hazel Hainsworth Young still remembers her teacher father’s elegant handwriting, the crisp, starched white blouse that became a high school Latin teacher’s trademark, the library books that opened her mind to a wider world — in short, all the factors, great and small, that propelled her into an educator’s career that spanned eight decades.
Ms. Hainsworth reminds me of the teachers I had in school. They cared that you performed well in school and showed respect toward yourself and others.

This is such an inspiring story! One of my favorite teachers from high school will always be special to me because she took time to listen to me when I needed it.
