Tina of Mary Mary Says “What’s Wrong With Sexy??”
Gospel music artists Mary Mary went from being forbidden to listen to anything other than gospel music to heavily impacting both the secular and gospel music worlds. In an article on NPR they talk about their Pentecostal father, their early upbringing, and their influence on gospel music and R&B. The sisters also weigh in on their “not tight, just form-fitting” dresses on the front of The Sound CD and their hubbies.
On the cover of The Sound, the Campbells aren’t adorned in choir robes; they’re confidently wearing sexy black dresses. Tina argues that the dresses aren’t tight, just form-fitting.
“Sometimes, people think we’re a little bit sexy. I don’t have a problem with that,” she says. “I would like to think that I’m sexy. I have a husband who I would like to think that every time he sees me. Truth be known, I’m a woman. I would love to be appealing to men. It is not my endeavor [to] entice, to cause anyone to lust.”
I hope my hubby thinks I’m sexy too. But, some ladies take it too far. They dress waaay past sexy.
I heart Mary Mary. Those gospel music girls like to keep it real.

There is nothing wrong with “a little sexy” as long as it is tasteful. For me, I don’t mind something that is form-fitting; but I do have a problem with skin exposure because it flirts with pornography. Whether we like to admit it or not, men are visually stimulated, it’s a part of our nature, we are wired that way. Even if you’re saved, sanctified, Holy Ghost filled, and fire baptized; you got Jesus on your mind and you’re running for your life with some Nike’s on; that one look can turn into lust in a blink of an eye. So I don’t care if you are the Pope, Pastor Kenneth Copeland, Pastor Creflo Dollar, Pastor I. V. Hilliard, Pastor Bill Winston, Pastor Jesse Duplantis and you speak in multiple tongues, and operate in all 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit and you have a designated pew in heaven with your name on it, any man can be tempted to take it just a little too far. Just ask Brother Kirk Franklin, who struggled for years while he was making all those wonderful albums at the start of his career.
I once saw a picture of Mary Mary where one of them had some cleavage exposure. At first I was like “wow, that’s a nice picture”. After being startled by the amount of exposure, the “dawg” in me thought to myself just like in the movie, “Dayyyyum!!!! I didn’t know she was ’stacked’ like that”. After I picked my chin up off the table, I did my 1st John 1:9 routine and moved on even though I struggled with not going back to the picture over and over again.
With all things being lawful, provided there is no conviction from the Holy Spirit, they did nothing wrong, it was MY weakness that caused me a problem. Sex or “sexy” sells in all genres of life, including Gospel Music and the church, the bottom line is, don’t let your good{freedom} be evil spoken of{or lusted after}
In closing(I’m sure you’re tired of reading this if you are still reading), CeCe Winans is my favorite female artist of all times, I have had a “play” crush on her for years. In all my days, I have never seen her cleavage or bust; nor have I seen her in something too short. She is the perfect example of “a little sexy”, very tasteful.
Saying things as plainly as I think them; they seem to be conforming to this world too much. Rom 12:1-2 (It’s not just them either). We are supposed to be trying to win people to God and back to Him. Nothing is wrong with sexy but that doesn’t mean showing the maximum amount of skin I can show, and still call it a Christian album. I just think that something and someone (ahem Jesus Christ) is getting lost in the shuffle. I am young and I know I can be sexy with out revealing legs nor bust. I know they’re trying to draw a broader audience, and that is admirable, but what is the audience being drawn to, them or Christ?
PS a certain song doesn’t make me even think about the “God in me” or anyone else, all I think about is my club days. I know we’re supposed to be going out into the highways and hedges, but we also need people to know that even though we’re supposed to come as we are, we can’t stay as we are. If that were true, what is the point of salvation?
I think it is a disgrace , how we have allowed satan to flood our churches and homes , not to mention our youth, with filth, especially the way these so -called Christian gospel singers dress. they’re advertising sex , they leave nothing for their future husbands imaginations , they look as if they’re wearing their baby sisters clothing. with the money they make you’d think they could afford under garments that fit . Even joggers , when they’re running don’t flop around that much. they are advertising sex . let them take it back to the streets where it belongs , they’re not ready for CHRIST yet only to see how much money they can make on HIs name. Bishop Mason would turn over in his grave to see how the church has stooped. they need deliverance. I’, a widow now but the God I serve has allowed me to raise six childern, without drugs,ciggarettes, alcohol, jail, prostitution, 3college grads,an artist,mason contractor, police officer ,one of the grads is a CPA. Tho Lord willing My 1st and oldest grandson graduates the 12th. I praise my God for still being on the throne. HE’s the same yesterday,today and forever .I’m praying for our youth to seek HIS face not HIS hand. God Bless.

For all those who have responded, You should not judge! On the other hand you should be praying for these young ladies. If you find issue with anything, pray that God will reveal anything he wants changed to them.
You may never know the reason for this, God may have placed it in their hearts to do all that they are doing. Believe me I have seen people wear worse to church. I am glad that my daughter can hear and see two beautiful young ladies who are doing their thing for the Lord. Believe me they could be singing secular music making WAY more money but the chose to serve the lord.
We are all human and fall short, but I did not really see anything (in these picture that is to loose, tight, sexy, etc.) that is inappropriate. Their skirts or dresses hit their knees, No cleavage is in these photos and were in the bible does it say we can’t wear pants? I know none of you wear robes all day! Women have breast, God made them, so there is nothing a woman can do to hide them. As long as they are covered what can she do?
This may be an issue for some to pray for their judgemental spirit or some to pray for their lustful spirit?
As for the other reported but not shown picture of the “clevage” I have not seen it to comment.

I have read the comments concerning mary mary and this is how i feel. I am 49 years young and have been raised in the church all of my life and as a musician i am glad to be retiring soon from playing for churches because the music coming out now can’t even be sung on sunday morning. As far as the sexy comment,since when should we as christians think that it’s alright to feel we should promote this?? I warn you everyone,do not forget sodom and gommorah,and how because of sin they grew worse and worse until God destroyed them.

please there is nothing wrong with what they have on. that what wrong with some christian today, instead of us getting out there spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. we choose to judge people on how they look, walk and talk and it not up to us it up to God
Lots of comments on the Mary Mary post. Thanks to everyone for posting their opinions. Lots of differing opinions on this one. Sometimes I approach it from my upbringing–don’t cross your legs in church, don’t wear pants, no women in the pulpit, cover yourself up. But, I see things differently know. To me, as long as you are conducting yourself in a decent manner in your dress there should be no problems. It’s all about the heart. But of course I know that some of us take decent too far…………..
She is contradicting herself when she says she wants to be appealing to men but not entice them. The only man she should be worry about appealing is her husband, because that could open the door for other things!! They have gone toooo far out with their style and they are starting to look like video vixens! The video “God In Me” has nothing to do with God or the gospel and does not minister to anyone.I was very disappointed! These ladies used to be one of my favorite gospel groups, and I have all of their previous CD’s but I will not be purchasing this one. I pray that they don’t fall victim to fame and remember the gift that God gave them to sing His praises and minister to the people, not appeal to their flesh!
These ladies travel all over the world and speak life into thousands of young people…I applaud them for that. They are a light to people all over the globe and for that I say thank you. People are always saying that men are visually stimulated which is true, but women have needs as well and just like most women looking good makes you feel good. They are not showing too much skin. Some men have foot fetishes, so should we keep our feet covered all of the time. No, they should get deliverance from the demon that would cause them to lust over a woman without even knowing her. It’s called self-control! I love these ladies and I know that God is pleased with the work that they are doing!
I agree with a previous post that noted it is about these ladies hearts and what they are saying in their music. What is wrong with the song “God in Me”? The song clearly explains that what outsiders think they see, is truly God residing in them. I cannot speak for Mary Mary, but I do believe that they understand where their gift comes from and throughout their career they have continuously given him the glory. Folks should not be so critical and focus on how to draw people to Christ instead of continuously being judgmental.

i think that when a female wears clothes that are tight fitting to her body, it leaves nothing for the imagination.when they wear clothes like that, it causes men to lust after them-( which is wrong). If they were covered up it would be better. when females wear pants you can see their shape( and what man would’nt look if thats what they put out there like that.) To make a long story short: WOMEN!
