The Bringing Nations Together with Gospel concert will be held at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston on December 7th. According to an article in the Berklee News, the Reverence Gospel Ensemble, Women of Virtue, Overjoyed, and Men of Valor will sing gospel song standards and Montgomery originals directed by associate professor Dennis Montgomery III.
The Reverence Gospel Ensemble was started at Berklee in 1981 and, under the leadership of Montgomery, has become one of the college’s most popular and best-known groups. Its appeal is wide-ranging and crosses ethnic and genre lines.
Over the years, the group has included students from Japan, Greece, Israel, France, Lebanon, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, the U.S., and many European and Scandinavian nations. The choir also counted as members alumnae Paula Cole ‘90, Susan Tedeschi ‘91, and Lalah Hathaway ‘94, when they were students.
Berklee has strong ties to Boston’s gospel music community, with students, faculty, and alumni performing regularly at local churches. Each year, the college awards a scholarship for outstanding achievement by a participant in its gospel ensemble.
Sounds like it will be a great concert. The article states that Montgomery has performed with gospel music artists Shirley Caesar, James Cleveland, John P. Kee, and James Cleveland. He has a gospel music CD out entitled Come And Have Church With Me.
