Mary Mary & KiKi’s God In Me Wins Soul Train Award
Gospel Song “God In Me” Wins Soul Train Award
Centric Presents: 2009 Soul Train Awards was taped on Tuesday, November 3rd and Mary Mary & Kierra Sheard’s hit gospel song “God In Me” won for Best Gospel Performance. Gospel music artists David & Tamela Mann presented for this category. The Gospel According To Torrence twit pic’d a picture of them on the red carpet and the husband & wife team were looking very nice in their black outfits. Looks like gospel music’s PJ Morton was there too.
Hosts for the night were Academy Award-nominated actors Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard. Some other highlights of the show: the late Michael Jackson received the Entertainer of the Year Award, and a very well received tribute to Chaka Khan was given by Erykah Badu, Melle Mel, Fantasia, Ledisi, and Angie Stone. The show will air on Sunday, November 29th in a special simulcast on BET and Centric.
If you are curious about this new Centric channel it is being billed as a 24-hour music and entertainment channel that reflects the lifestyle and sophistication of today’s African-American and multicultural adult viewer. It’s supposed to show a mix of music, culture, and lifestyle programming 24/7. Music content will include Soul, R&B, Neo-Soul, Hip Hop, Reggae, Gospel Music, and Jazz.
Congrats to Mary Mary and KiKi Sheard on their win. Were they there to accept the award? Anyway, it’s a great gospel song and it deserves all the hype its getting.
