Gospel Play Educates Another Generation About Gospel Music Pioneer Mahalia Jackson

Mahalia, A Gospel Musical will be running through March 14th at the MetroStage in Alexandria, Virginia.

Based on the life of gospel music pioneer Mahalia Jackson, the play features an ensemble of three remarkable actors that tell the story of Mahalia from a shanty in New Orleans to the stage of Carnegie Hall, ending with a brilliant performance at the Lincoln Memorial.

Bernardine Mitchell plays Mahalia, S. Renee Clark portrays Mahalia’s longtime accompanist Mildred Falls and her Aunt Duke, and William Hubbard plays Cousin Fred, the blind organist Francis, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 3pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm and 7pm. Tickets range from $45-50 and group rates are available. Tickets can be reserved by calling 1-800-494-8497 or online at MetroStage.
