Mississippi Mass Choir To Receive Thomas A. Dorsey Award
Mississippi Mass Choir to be awarded for outstanding work in the gospel community at Stellar Awards
I don’t remember if I reported this or not, but the Mississippi Mass Choir will be receiving the Thomas A. Dorsey Notable Achievement Award at Saturday’s Stellar Awards show in Nashville.
The award, named for the Father of Gospel Music, recognizes outstanding work in the gospel music community. According to an article in the Clarion Ledger, the 250 member choir got its start in 1989 in which they won Choir of the Year, Artist of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Gospel Music Video.
“We are all about our Father’s business,” choir executive director Jerry Mannery is quoted as saying in a release. “We are not entertainers, we are ministers for Christ. Our mission remains constant; to serve the Lord and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
It’s great that they will be getting such a prestigious award. What are some of your favorite Mississippi Mass Choir gospel songs? Some of my favorites are When I Rose (love Mother Burke!), I’m Not Tired Yet, and Your Grace & Mercy with Frank Williams.
