I don’t know how this story passed me by, but I just read an article at theĀ Christian Post about rapper The Game and his new focus on giving his life to Jesus Christ.
He stated that you can still have swag and be a Christian. The statement below is what made me laugh initially, because it caught me off guard. Game was talking to radio personality Jenny Boom Boom about his new CD, Jesus Piece.
“I’m calling it ‘Jesus Piece’ ’cause last year in August I got baptized and so I’ve been going to church, but I still been kinda doing me out here,” the rapper told the radio personality.
“I still love the strip club and I still smoke and drink. I’m faithful to my family, so I wanted to make an album where you could love God and be of God, but still get it poppin’ in your life.”
“I’m a Christian but I’m not ‘holier than thou.’ You can still have swag and be a Christian, you ain’t gotta wear a suit to church, you ain’t gotta take a bath in Holy water,” the rapper told Vibe.
“You can still have your Ciroc in the club, it’s just a faith thing and making sure you try to do right. I’m still a father, I still smoke, I still rep Compton, I still might shoot dice or have a fight if I have to defend myself.”
What do you guys think about this? Is this what it means to make Jesus cool? I thought that when you belonged to Christ the old passes away and the new comes in (2 Cor. 5:17).
I know we are not all perfect and we are working out our salvation continually, but I hope this does not cause confusion. I pray the best for The Game in his Christian walk. It’s not an easy road, but it’s worth it.
The Game Jesus Piece, which is scheduled to be released later this year, will include features from Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj. The Game was baptized last year at Bishop Noel Jones church.
