According to several reports, legendary gospel singer Inez Andrews has passed away Wednesday, December 19th at the age of 83 at her home in Chicago. According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, her granddaughter said she was being treated for cancer.
Andrews was a member of the Caravans with Albertina Walker before she started her own group. She is known for gospel hit songs “Mary, Don’t You Weep” and “Lord, Don’t Move This Mountain.” Andrews was scheduled to receive the Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legend Award at the Stellar Awards in January of next year.
“I’d like to be remembered as a person who lived the life they sang about,” Andrews said in the Tribune interview. “And I would hope that my conduct in life would be such that someone would want to see me again on the other side.”
Andrews is survived by seven children, 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Please keep the family in your prayers.
