I loved Cissy Houston’s interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter about her daughter Whitney Houston and her new book, Remembering Whitney. Cissy was no nonsense and straight to the point the entire interview. She said she did not write the book for money, but to let the world know what her daughter Whitney was really like.
Oprah asked the hard questions and Cissy answered them direct and honestly. She talked about going to visit Whitney unannounced and being horrified by what she saw. Afterwards she returned with the police to have Whitney put in a rehab hospital. She was also candid about how she felt about Bobby Brown.
In reference to the relationship Whitney had with her assistant and friend Robyn Crawford, Oprah asked her if it would have bothered her if her daughter was gay. She said absolutely. Oprah looked a little surprised and Cissy said that she would have not liked it at all.
The most heartbreaking moment in the interview for me was when Oprah was talking with Whitney’s brother, Michael. He was clearly still totally devastated by his sister’s death. He admitted to being the one to introduce her to drugs and said that she just got caught up and he felt terrible that he let it go so far.
