Barack Obama Makes History and Dares America To Dream!
“With profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination
for the presidency of the United States."-Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama
Barack Obama made history by accepting the Democratic presidential nomination. He made a lot of promises that I hope he is able to keep. I really do believe he will do his best to fulfill those promises. He blasted President Bush really good and painted a dismal picture of the hardship the country is currently facing.
His speech was a great one! It was electrifying from start to end. I am impressed that so far he is running a clean campaign. He is keeping the race based on the issues and not stooping to slinging mud. The audience of more than 84,000 was excited and very supportive of Obama. I really liked the part of his speech where he asserted that this campaign was not about him, but about the people that work hard to make the country work. He mentioned the historical significance of his speech falling on the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech on Washington.
This is the first time I’ve watched the DNC from start to finish. It was a great convention. The world is ready for change and Obama seems poised to meet the challenge.
Some great quotes from Barack Obama’s speech:
I get it. I realize that I am not the likeliest candidate for this office. I don’t fit the typical pedigree, and I haven’t spent my career in the halls of Washington. But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the nay-sayers don’t understand is that this election has never been about me. It’s been about you.
Instead, it is that American spirit – that American promise – that pushes us forward even when the path is uncertain; that binds us together in spite of our differences; that makes us fix our eye not on what is seen, but what is unseen, that better place around the bend.
We cannot walk alone. At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future. Let us keep that promise – that American promise – and in the words of Scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess.

Christian Companion Senior Care Offers Franchise Opportunities
Christian Companion Senior Care, the nation’s first senior care franchise to combine practical and spiritual assistance, is offering franchise opportunities to entrepreneurial-minded businesspeople in Little Rock as a way to tap into the high-growth senior care industry.
"Franchising lets you start a business for yourself, but not by yourself," said Christian Companion Senior Care Founder and President Gary Brown. "With the number of seniors in Little Rock hovering around 70,000, we feel this area to be a prime location for new franchises. Unlike starting a business from scratch, Christian Companion franchisees begin with a proven business model. From day one, our franchisees are provided protected territories and tools to help ensure their business success–plus affiliation with a team of like-minded, mission-focused businesspeople."
Little Rock residents with an interest in incorporating their faith with a new business venture should be aware of the growing in-home care industry. According to Aging in Place in America (2007), 37.3 million people aged 65 and better live in the United States. This number is projected to grow to 86.7 million by 2050.
Other reports from the same source indicate that seniors aged 85 and better are now the fastest growing segment of the U. S. population. Couple those statistics with the fact that 76 percent of seniors say that religion is very important to their life (U.S. Census Bureau - 2006). The timing is perfect for a mix of senior care with Christian caregivers.
"Christians are increasingly looking for ways to integrate their faith into the workplace," Brown added. "Christian Companion offers franchise owners the opportunity to earn a living by living their faith."
Christian Companion Senior Care provides seniors with traditional in-home services, such as bathing, light housekeeping, medication reminders, meal preparation and transportation. In addition, trained and experienced care-giving professionals are also equipped to provide spiritual encouragement. Clients indicate that in-home assistance gently coupled with spiritual encouragement–like prayer, reading the Bible, even singing a favorite old hymn–can make the difference between merely existing and living with joy. www.ChristianSeniorCare.com .

Olympic swimmer, Cullen Jones, has earned a Gold medal on the USA’s 4×100 freestyle relay team. The team’s winning time also earned them a new world record. NBC described the race as the “most exciting, most record-breaking, most amazing, thrilling, unbelievable relay anyone could ever imagine.”
Cullen is the second African-American swimmer, after Anthony Ervin, to win a gold medal. He says when he was 5 he almost drowned at a water park, and that is what compels him to teach others to swim. He notes that minorities are three times more likely to drown and works hard to teach them how to swim.
My kids took swimming lessons for 2 weeks this summer. Drowning rates for our city is off the charts. They had fun, got some much needed exercise, and met new friends. They didn’t learn all that’s needed in those two weeks, but they mastered the essentials. I’m sure they would love this quote by Cullen, because they tended to stay in water they could stand up in. lol
“I’ve talked to tons and tons of groups of African American kids and asked them, ‘Who likes to get in the water?’ and all hands go up. I ask, ‘Who can swim?’ All hands go up. And I’m like, ‘Do you understand what that means to swim? You can’t be in the shallow end. You have to be in the deep end.’ Half the hands drop.”-Cullen Jones
Not Exactly Gospel Music Related……Isaac Hayes & Bernie Mac
I’m sure everyone has heard by now about the deaths of Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes this past weekend. I was pretty shocked when I heard the news because it happened so close together. It’s been a sad time lately with all the deaths, but you have to tell yourself God is still in control and our lives are in His hands.
I didn’t know that Isaac Hayes used to sing in a Gospel music group. According to Gospelrama , he sang in a group called the Morning Stars. The Prayze Report has a great article on Hayes legacy and enormous contribution to music and the Black community. His son, Isaac Hayes III, posted about his dad here . There is a music link on there to a track called "Now We Are One", that he says is a favorite of his and shows a different side of his father. Take a listen to it, it’s really nice.
According to People magazine, Rhonda, Mac’s wife since 1977, and their 30-year-old daughter, Je’Niece, were with him when he died. His wife had 30 years of marriage with him and I’m sure that is bringing her a lot of comfort now. Bernie Mac’s funeral has been scheduled for August 16.
