Notes From My Church-Nothing Can Separate Me & The Court Case

August 7, 2008 · Filed Under Notes From My Church · Comment

Da’dra, Israel and the team did a great job on the new "Nothing Can Separate Me".

The Court Case

Remember the incident in 2005 with Victoria Osteen and the flight attendant? Seems so long ago I forgot about it. Well, the jury selection for the civil trial began yesterday in Houston. It is now officially Sandra Brown v. Victoria Osteen. The attorney representing Victoria Osteen in the lawsuit is the legendary Rusty Hardin who has represented baseball pitcher Roger Clemens. Pastor Joel is expected to testify and was there with Victoria during jury selection.

The flight attendant, Sandra Brown, says that she was assaulted by Victoria Osteen over a water stain on her first-class seat and she wants an apology and 10% of the Osteen’s net worth.

Notes From Lakewood Church-God’s Love is All Around

The Kids Choir did a wonderful job on “All Around”. I love to see them sing! I wonder if they ever get stage fright when they look around and see all the people in the audience? They always look so poised and appear to be having a great time.

Dr. Paul Osteen delivered an inspiring sermon about his time in Kenya, Africa on a medical mission. His passion and commitment for the mission and the people of Kenya was evident during his sermon and slide presentation. The story of the doctor donating his blood for a patient who was in immediate need was touching. Dr. Paul and his family blogged about their time in Africa here.

My vision for Notes From My Church is for others to share what is going on in their church services. I would love to hear what is going on in other places of worship. Let’s all share and encourage each other. It doesn’t have to be long, fancy, or perfect. Just place it in the following format: the music, the message, the atmosphere and e-mail it to me at dominique@1800gospel.com. I’m looking forward to hearing from everyone! Thanks!

Clayton Ring did a wonderful job on “How Can I Keep From Singing”. I couldn’t help but notice that he was smiling the entire time he was singing. It was great to see that. His joy and happiness rubbed off on me. Great job, Clayton!

This is the J-Life performance to Casting Crowns “Who Am I” on May 31st. I was hoping Greg would post this, because it was such a standout performance.

Pastor Joel is in negotiations to host a primetime reality series based on his Sunday sermons. The show will originate from Lakewood Church and tell the stories of ordinary people meeting extraordinary challenges.~CBS

Michael W. Smith is recording a live album at Lakewood June 20th.

THE MESSAGE:

Scripture References:1 Thessalonians 5:11, Proverbs 12:25
Subject: Being a People Builder

Quick Notes From The Sermon: Being a people builder means that you invest in others and you build up their confidence and encourage them to do their best. None of us will reach our highest potential by ourselves. We all should have someone we are encouraging and building up. Study them and you will see something in them that they don’t think they have. Pastor Joel said that it was amazing what a simple word of encouragement can do. Your words can be the seed that someone needs to fulfull their destiny. Don’t be so focused on yourself and your goals that you don’t reach out to others.

Everyone needs to be feel valued and appreciated. Are you believing in someone? Listen to their dreams and goals. We all should be someone’s number one fan. Pastor Joel advised everyone to look past what a person is and see what they can become. When you believe in others, they will rise to your expectations. Don’t withhold your blessings and be free with complements. It takes little effort and can mean so much to someone. The encouraging words that you speak are not merely words, but they are encouragement that will be remembered for a lifetime. Read more
