Not Exactly Gospel Music Related……Isaac Hayes & Bernie Mac
I’m sure everyone has heard by now about the deaths of Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes this past weekend. I was pretty shocked when I heard the news because it happened so close together. It’s been a sad time lately with all the deaths, but you have to tell yourself God is still in control and our lives are in His hands.
I didn’t know that Isaac Hayes used to sing in a Gospel music group. According to Gospelrama , he sang in a group called the Morning Stars. The Prayze Report has a great article on Hayes legacy and enormous contribution to music and the Black community. His son, Isaac Hayes III, posted about his dad here . There is a music link on there to a track called "Now We Are One", that he says is a favorite of his and shows a different side of his father. Take a listen to it, it’s really nice.
According to People magazine, Rhonda, Mac’s wife since 1977, and their 30-year-old daughter, Je’Niece, were with him when he died. His wife had 30 years of marriage with him and I’m sure that is bringing her a lot of comfort now. Bernie Mac’s funeral has been scheduled for August 16.
