Kelly Price on singing Gospel & secular, says she can do both
I love to hear Kelly Price sing Gospel music because she has such a phenomenal voice. Remember her performance of gospel song “How Great Thou Art” with Ledisi at Celebration of Gospel 2010?
Kelly Price has a new single, “Tired”, and her self-titled CD will be released soon.
In an interview on Bossip Kelly had this to say about being a Gospel and a secular artist:
Bossip: You’ve been known as both a Gospel artist and a secular artist. Do you ever find a conflict in doing both or do you have a preference?
Kelly Price: Again, it goes back to relevance. I can do both secular and gospel. Both are a part of my life. I grew up in the church. My gospel audience buys all my records, they don’t judge me. I’ve been able to win a lot of gospel music people over because of my message.
I speak to life situations. There is life outside of the church. We can get so wrapped up in our beliefs that we segregate ourselves. My mom always told me, “Don’t be so heavenly minded, that you’re no earthly good. The quality of life on earth is as important as life after death.
I loved the part of the interview where she explained how she keeps it all together. She said she screams a lot like most black mothers. I can relate because my kiddies ask me why I scream so much.
Kelly Price: I keep it together the best way I can. When it comes to my kids, I do like other black mothers. I scream a lot. My kids think I’m crazy and that’s what helps keep them in line. My home life is very normal. I’m old school. If kids act up around me, I will yoke them up. I yell, I scream, but I balance it the best way I can.

Wanna learn how to write gospel songs? Five easy steps will get you there……
Learn To Write Gospel Songs
If you have dreams of being a gospel song writer ehow wants to show you how to get there step-by-step.
I’m not so sure it’s quite as easy as they make it out to be, but it’s a great start. Publishers of songs get paid quite handsomely.
Some gospel songs are very simple songs and some of the gospel hits choruses have been no longer that 3 word lines. Gospel music can be simple to write but there are some techniques to be considered when you are writing it.
Step 1-Walk it. It is hard writing from the heart if the walk is not aligning with God’s word.
Step 2- Make sure you are writing from the heart. Be honest with your feelings.
Step 3- Get fired up! Praying before you write is known to get your mind, body and spirit in a creative mode and more receptive to hear from God. Reflect on some things God brought you through.
Step 4-Start writing. Decide who you are talking to. There are two kinds of gospel songs. Songs that praise God directly, and songs that praise God indirectly.
Step 5-Refer to the bible frequently. There is poems in there that can help you communicate certain feelings that you have inside.
Visit e-how to get more in depth information on each of the steps. The advice is pretty good if you aspire to be a serious writer of gospel songs.
