Sunday Gospel!-Gospel Rapper Dooney Da Priest

August 10, 2008 · Filed Under Sunday Gospel! · 2 Comments

Dooney Da Priest is a Gospel music rapper that has launched a war against the sagging pants trend that is popular in our cities. I can’t say that I agree with the "downlow" references in the song, because I think the look is just a popular fashion statement. I do agree that the trend is not a good one.

There is this junior high school student in my neighborhood that takes his sagging look very serious. He looks very put together otherwise, but to see him struggling to walk with his baggy pants is hilarious to me. It looks like his pants are ready to fall down at any second. Another kid that lives on my block likes the look also, but is respectful enough to get it together when I tell him, "boy, pull your pants up!".

I’m glad that the school my boys go to require them to tuck their shirts in and wear belts. Hopefully the baggy pants fad will be long gone by the time they are old enough to care. Then it’s on to the next fad……….

1. Christian Rap is attracting teens to church in droves. This is a good thing! I like Christian rap because it is reaching an audience that wouldn’t otherwise be reached because of their musical tastes. My son likes it, and I would rather him listen to that than some of the disrespectful rap that is currently on the market. Check out Gospel rap artists such as Trip Lee , LeCrae , Da Truth, T-Bone, and Canton Jones for some great Gospel rap music.~Houston Christian Rap

2. Pastor Donnie McClurkin’s Perfecting Church in Long Island, New York is having a Mothers in Zion Conference July 11th-13th. They are also hosting an outdoor party every Sunday from July 6th -August 31st. The outdoor party is celebrating 9 weeks of "church the way it was meant to be."~Perfecting Faith Church

4. Gospel Music singer Marie Knight is being inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Detroit. Knight has been singing Gospel music since she was 16 and toured and recorded with Sister Rosetta Tharpe for 23 years when Tharpe was a nationally famous Gospel singer and guitarist.~Marie Knight

"I was into rhythm and blues about three months." And I couldn’t get satisfied with that because it wasn’t me. I decided that I didn’t want that, and I dropped that completely. Completely. I do nothing but gospel."-Marie Knight

Trip Lee-20/20

June 6, 2008 · Filed Under Gospel Music · 1 Comment

Gospel rapper, Trip Lee, has a new album out entitled “20/20″ which is currently #4 on the Gospel Music Billboard Charts. Black and Reformed Ministries did a great job with reviewing the album so I won’t try to reinvent the wheel. I love all kinds of Gospel music and gospel rappers have the ability to touch those who might not listen to conventional Gospel music.
