Sunday Gospel!-Never Would Have Made It

September 21, 2008 · Filed Under Sunday Gospel! · Comment

After this past week the only video that comes to mind for Sunday Gospel! is Marvin Sapp’s "Never Would Have Made It". Hurricane Ike has caused extensive damage to Galveston, the Bolivar Peninsula, Houston, and the surrounding areas. For many people this means no electricity, water, food and ice. All the school systems have been out for the week. Many kids will go back next week, while some schools will be closed indefinitely.

My house was without power for about 3 days and cable for about 6 days. We are blessed in that regard because my father and in-laws are still without power. Things are slowly trying to go back to normal, but the storm was a bad one and caused lots of damage. There are so many things to be thankful to God for. Please continue to pray for us!

What is your "Never Would Have Made It" moment?

Marvin Sapp was on the “Today Show” this morning with several members of his church choir. He gave a great performance of the very popular “Never Would Have Made It” which is on  Sapp’s Grammy-nominated “Thirsty” CD. The song which was written after the death of his father, has spent 45 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s gospel radio charts and last month crossed over to urban adult contemporary radio as the country’s No. 1 song.

Isn’t it cool how he sings the song different every time? Great show!

Marvin Sapp on Setting Priorities

August 5, 2008 · Filed Under Gospel Music News · Comment

In this interview , originally published in 2007, the five-time Grammy-nominated Gospel music singer recounts his childhood, troubled youth, and his start in Gospel music. His wife MaLinda says that despite his busy schedule he has his priorities in order, and has never missed a birthday for any of their three kids.

"He doesn’t get stressed," she says. "At the end of the day, I’ll be stressed about x and x that I didn’t get done and he’ll say, ‘Lin, did you do your best today? That’s all that matters. The rest will wait till tomorrow.’ He does his best, then rests."

Marvin Sapp’s Thirsty Album has been certified gold largely based on the popularity of the hit single, "Never Would Have Made It". The single is in the #1 position on the Urban AC Chart, has spent 42 weeks as the number one song at Gospel radio, and has been the #1 CD on the Gospel sales charts for a total of 27 weeks.
