BET Has Announced 2009 Celebration of Gospel Host
BET has announced that the host of the 2009 Celebration of Gospel will be Steve Harvey. The show will air on January 25th and will feature Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin, Smokie Norful, Hezekiah Walker, and many others.
I’m looking forward to the show, but like some of the commenters on BET’s board I would like to see a wider variety of Gospel artists. A mix of the stars and up and coming artists would be nice. Also, some that we don’t see a lot of like Israel Houghton, Kim Burrell, Niyoki , Lecrae, Da Truth, or James Fortune would also be nice.

Sunday Gospel!-The Nevels Sisters
Contemporary gospel music lovers have been raving about The Nevels Sisters. Hot off impressive performances at Bishop John Francis’ Ruach Ministries Women’s Conference in London and at Dr. Bobby Jones’ Las Vegas Reunion’s Women In Gospel Concert, The Nevels Sisters are ready to gain even more fans with the release of the highly-anticipated national release, Beautiful . The MOLife Entertainment project showcases these powerful singers, who have sung with Vickie Winans, Israel & New Breed, and Mary Mary, in an unforgettable collection of contemporary gospel music. Releasing on November 25, 2008, Beautiful seeks to inspire, encourage and motivate throughout 17 original songs delivered in a superior style that’s unique to these four biological sisters.
Veniece Andrews, Debra Jordan, Gail Nevels and April Wade hail from Youngstown, Ohio, and have been singing most of their lives. They burst onto the national scene as the winners of The Word Network’s National Talent Competition in 2007, reigning over 1,500 auditioned gospel acts. Now the female quartet, signed with MOLife Entertainment, makes their national debut with the stunning CD, Beautiful. Produced by noted producer Tommy Walker (CeCe Winans, Fred Hammond), Beautiful is a musical collage of contemporary gospel, traditional gospel, praise and worship and flavors of Contemporary Christian music.
The CD’s singles, the catchy “It’s About Time” and churchy “Clap Your Hands”, have already been getting great reviews. The title tune, “Beautiful” and The Nevels Sisters’ signature song, “Company”, not only inspire, but comfort as well. Other strong tracks include the pop-tinged “Unbelievable”, the urban-grooved “Too Long” and the infectious “God Can”. With an unmatched vocal symmetry, impeccable delivery and perfectly-penned songs, fans of the girls will find a favorite hard to choose.
“We think this is the best CD we’ve ever done,” says April. “These songs have been birthed out of a lot of tears, trials and tribulation. Because of what we’ve gone through, we know that it’s going to be a blessing to the people of God.”

Mary Mary’s “Get Up” on Ugly Betty
I was watching Ugly Betty last week and was pleasantly surprised to hear Mary Mary’s "Get Up" played during a scene where Betty had to meet a 48 hour deadline. I was too excited!! The song does make you want to get up and do something. lol
"Get Up" is the lead single from their latest Gospel music CD, The Sound. It is getting a lot of crossover airplay on many radio stations. It is currently #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Album chart.
Penny’s Gang Records Presents Miracle Christmas Night
Penny’s Gang Records (PGR), the newly-formed label co-founded by longtime industry veteran Chris Bolden and former World Ski Champion Penny McCoy, formally announces the upcoming release of PGR’s first Christmas album, which is now available everywhere. The album is being distributed by Fontana/Universal Music Group.
The 11-track release features both the familiar — Wanda Vaughn’s (of The Emotions fame) — superbly impassioned offering of "Miracle Christmas Night" which is introduced by Stevie Wonder, and Terry Dexter who can be heard on "There’s Nothing Like Christmas Time," as well as emerging artists such as newcomers Patrick Paegel who offers the worshipful "The Great I Am" and special guest appearances by Nonie Devon and Mashonda Huskey who open the set with the emotional Christmas favorite "Do You Hear What I Hear?" which is at once familiar to listeners as it sets the tone for introducing a collection of new music which are certain to become classics in the coming years.
