Stellar Award Nominees for 2009 Have Been Announced
The 2009 nominations have been announced for the 24th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards. Categories cover traditional, contemporary, urban, hip-hop/rap, instrumentalists and more. Marvin Sapp garnered nine nominations on the strength of his blockbuster hit "Never Would Have Made It" from his Thirsty Album. Dorinda Clark-Cole and Kirk Franklin each received five nominations.
The nominations for Song of the Year are Canton Jones-"My Day", Jonathan Nelson and Justin Savage-"My Name Is Victory", Marvin Sapp / Matthew Brownie-"Never Would Have Made It", Myron Butler and John Webb-"Stronger", and Percy Gray-"God Is My Everything". Who do you think should win this category?
The category for Female Vocalist of the Year is a tough category! The nominees are Beverly Crawford-Live From Los Angeles, CeCe Winans-Thy Kingdom Come, Dorinda Clark-Cole-Take It Back, Jessica Greene-4 The World, and Shirley Caesar-After 40 Years… Still Sweeping Through the City.
Who would you choose? They are all fabulously anointed. I’m a die hard CeCe fan, but I love Dorinda’s new song Take It Back". I love Beverly’s energy and Shirley Caesar is a living legend. Have to admit I don’t know much about Jessica Greene.
This year “Most Notable Achievement Award” winner is Vickie Winans. Daryl Coley, will receive The James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Dr. Bobby Jones Legend Award will be presented to The Rance Allen Group.
For the third year in a row the awards will be held in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry House. It will be on January 17th and the hosts will be Sinbad and Yolanda Adams. A full list of the nominees can be viewed at GospelFlava , the official online partner of the Stellar Awards.

Gospel Music News-Stellar Awards, GMWA, Spirit Fest 2008
1. The Black Gospel Blog has a great interview with Gospel rapper Canton Jones. His latest project is Kingdom Business, and he says the album is about taking the message of Jesus Christ outside the four walls of the church to the streets, schools, clubs, and malls. Canton has been in Gospel music for quite a while. He grew up listening to Gospel and his dad was in a Gospel quartet.
Your dad sang quartet? Tell us about the Nobleaires.
The Nobleaires. They were like the Jackson Southernaires. At that time, every quartet had to have “aires” in their name. But imagine an eight, nine year old kid – the members would push me out in the front to sing. I learned to relate to old and young through my experience with the Nobleaires.
2. PrayzeHymnOnline has a great feature of the worst Gospel album covers ever. I thought this was very funny! I know I have often wondered what made Kiki Sheard pick the album cover she did for her "This is Me" album. Great album, depressing album cover! It was # 4 on the list. BeBe Winans received the distinguished honor of being #1 for his "Cherch" album.
HAVE YOU EVER SCROLLED through the gospel section at your favorite record store and actually had to do a double take on an album cover? And not because of its goregous layout, but for the opposite…because of tasteless color schemes, bad photography, cheesy Photoshop homework and tired fonts.
