Gospel Music’s Dove Awards To Be Held April 2010
The 41st Annual GMA Dove Awards will be held on Wednesday, April 2010.

Started in 1969, the GMA Dove Awards is the “Biggest Night In Gospel Music”, and the longest running and most prestigious televised awards ceremony recognizing achievement in all genres of Christian and Gospel music.
At the 2009 awards show Steven Curtis Chapman won Artist and Songwriter of The Year, Kirk Franklin won a trophy for his CD Fight of My Life, and Martha Munizzi won one for Contemporary Gospel Album.

Gospel Music Artists Perform Their Hits at Dove Awards

It was great to see performances by gospel music artists Kierra Sheard, Mary Mary, and Jonathan Nelson. The finale song “Oh Happy Day”, was sung by Melinda Watts, Mandisa, Edwin Hawkins, and Donnie McClurkin. Miss California, Carrie Prejean, received a standing ovation when she introduced artists Mercy Me.
Steven Curtis Chapman won Doves in the artist and songwriter categories. The win was bittersweet for him and his family because of the loss of their youngest daughter last year in an accident.
“I know the reason why I think we’re standing here is not something we ever would have signed up for,” Chapman said, with wife Mary Beth by his side and sons Caleb and Will Franklin watching from the front row. “Our hope is not in this life, and thank you all for communicating that, and communicating it more boldly. If we can say anything as a family, a broken family having lost our little girl, it’s to let this hope make us so bold.” Source
