Fab Five!!-New Gospel Music I’m Loving

July 24, 2008 · Filed Under Fab Five!! · Comment

There is a lot of great new Gospel music out right now. You can find rap, contemporary, traditional, and praise and worship. This list is just a very small part of the vast amount of great new music available. Please continue to support the ministry of Gospel music and the artists by purchasing the music. They work really hard to put out the awesome and anointed music that we hear on the airwaves and in our churches. I would love to hear what you think of this list and what new music you are enjoying.

1. Tye Tribbett-Good in The Hood -I’m loving the single "Good in The Hood" because it’s different and it puts a positive spin on "the hood". The folks I see in the hood are also taking care of their families, their communities and striving for better. We always hear about the bad, but there is a lot of great things happening also. Love the little girl on the record saying, "I’ve got something good inside me!". Peep the video here .

I didn’t know that Tye and his group were asked to back country superstar Faith Hill on her tour in 2000, which caused them to appear and record with artists such as Will Smith, and Mary Mary. Their first official recording, "Let Go, Let God" appeared on Dreamworks’ Prince of Egypt compilation in 1998.

2. 21:03-Cover Me -When I heard the voice of Fred Hammond I was already biased toward this song, but the lyrics really sealed it up for me. The lyrics are a reminder to pray for each other-to cover our loved ones and our world with prayers. You can listen to the song on the groups’ myspace page.

Remember to cover me
that i might go in peace
Remember to keep me lifted
that i might go in spirit
Keep my name on your lips
When you pray remember this:
I need you
to cover me.

21:03 is comprised of Detroit natives Sean Grant, Torrence Greene, and Evin Martin. According to the Gospel Music Channel , the name 21:03 represents the actual day – January 21, 2003 – that PAJAM resolved to take their talents to an even higher level by finding, forming and grooming a band of highly gifted vocalists who would prepare – musically and spiritually – for its own musical mission under the careful watch and guidance of PAJAM ( J-Moss, Paul ‘pda’ Allen and Walter Kearney), and the team of gifted people who round out their Detroit-based production company.

3. Gregg Patrick-I Am A Witness -This song led by Rhonda McLemore is on the Pastor Gregg Patrick & The Bridge Project CD that was released on June 17th. The CD features Dr. Bobby Jones, Ted Winn, Nikita Clegg-Fox, Shawn McLemore, Nikki Ross, Rhonda McLemore, Zacardi Cortez and more. The talented songwriters include V. Michael McKay, Darius Brooks, Ted Winn, Myron Butler, Shawn McLemore, Maurice Rogers and Joel Britton. Visit the myspace for more information.

4. Steve Crawford-Abundance of Rain & Da’dra Crawford Greathouse-Free To Worship -Remember the Gospel music group Anointed? The group was formed in 1988, by Nee-C Walls, Mary Tiller, Da’dra Crawford and Steve Crawford during their time in high school.

The group went on to win seven Dove Awards , two Stellar Awards and three Grammy Award nominations. Well, Steve and Da’dra are now part of the Praise and Worship Team at Lakewood Church in Houston. These two songs were inspired by messages from Pastor Joel Osteen and his sister Lisa Comes. You can visit Steve & Da’dra at their website or stop by Lakewood the next time you are in Houston.

5. Frontlynaz-Imagine -Gotta have some Gospel rap in the mix! My kiddos would love this CD. Frontlynaz, aka Bro. Wize, Proph1 and Witness are helping to reach the pop music generation. They have performed with artists such as The Cross Movement, Da T.R.U.T.H., and Tye Tribbett.

Gospel rap is still finding its place, but groups such as Frontlynaz are helping to put Holy Hip Hop on the map. No bling, no guns, just real rap. Visit the Myspace to hear more.

Additional great new Gospel music to check out:
Lejenue Thompson -Ooh La La
Dooney "Da Priest"-Pull Your Pants Up!
Melinda Watts -Gospel Dream 2008 Winner-Tis So Sweet
Damita Haddon-No Looking Back
